The Most Beautiful Steampunk Clocks
Being one of the most emblematic elements of steampunk, we had to tell you about it. Your culture is at stake! Steampunk clocks, true symbol of this style, do not escape the creators, the artists, the illustrators, ...
The "industrial" style and decoration, which are coming back in fashion, are greatly inspired by it. These vintage style objects are always so aesthetic.
Today we want to show you some real clocks, from the smallest to the most imposing, from the most original to the most classic. Sit back and relax, as we dive into this world of enthusiasts that we love so much.
Clock Art
Eric Freitas is an artist who creates absolutely unique clocks. Trained in design, painting and sculpture, he fell in love with clocks as a teenager. Through his visually sculptural and expressive creations, he imposes his vision of asymmetry and imperfection. To give the viewer a sense of time, he tells of change, transformation, wear and tear, rebirth.
Sometimes the clock itself is shown as a living, organic, growing entity with mechanized organs and a ticking heartbeat. These themes are reinforced by the cyclical movement of the clock's cogs, echoing the metaphor of death and rebirth.

Clock Cog
Erin Keck is an American designer of handmade jewelry and gifts. And in particular, sublime clocks. Her style differs from other artists, because of the abundance of cogs. Indeed, we can't say that she skimped on the quantity! Different sizes, shapes, and colors, I'll let you count them. If you want to try your hand at this kind of creation, we have a collection of Steampunk Cogs perfectly adapted to you, which you will find on our website.

Often in steampunk creations, objects are diverted from their original purpose. This is how we end up with such a varied style. We have here the perfect demonstration, with these sprockets and bicycle chains. At one end, a quite classical clock (if you can say so), and at the other, a small dial. All connected by this massive chain β.

Handmade Clock
In the image on the left, it is Viorel Radu who is building a huge steampunk wall panel, with a large round clock with Roman numerals in its center. As we can see, he is busy painting the lower gears of this impressive structure, made of all the elements we can associate with steampunk. Nothing escapes it! And on the right, a nice little stove transformed and customized in the steampunk style, very elegant.

Owl clock
We're back to the classics, with animals, like this Owl Clock π¦ and this Octopus Clock. We talked about them in our article on Steampunk Tattoos, these animals often come back in a roundabout way: mechanical, or articulated, with cogs instead of organs and joints. But beware, they may be totally original, these clocks are absolutely functional.

Steam Clock (Gastown, Vancouver)
Although it appears to be a relic of the Victorian era and is located in Vancouver's "Gastown" (which was the original site of the city in the 1870s), the industrial-style steam clock was built in 1977 by clockmaker Raymond Saunders and metalworker Doug Smith.
The clock is probably only the second steam clock ever built, the first having been built by Englishman John Inshaw in 1859, to attract customers to his tavern. Because Inshaw's clock was small and very inaccurate, Saunders had to reinvent the steam clock from scratch.
Every hour, she blows steam, whistling her version of the Westminster chimes (whistling at the end of the video, around 1:05).
To say that the clock is "steam-powered" is a bit of a misnomer, as the operation of the clock itself is powered by descending weights. The steam engine is connected by a rubber belt to a hidden electric motor, much more reliable than steam. There are six other steam clocks in operation around the world. But the lesson has been learned: only the whistles are steam powered and the clocks are electric.

Big Ben clock
We could not end this presentation without mentioning the most famous clock. 96 meters high and with its large diameter of 2.7 meters, Big Ben has greatly influenced and inspired the steampunk style and universe, due to its architecture which is both gothic and Victorian.
The Elizabeth Tower, formerly known as the Clock Tower but better known as Big Ben, was built as part of Charles Barry's plan for a new palace after the old Palace of Westminster burned down on October 16, 1834. The new parliament was built in a Gothic Revival style. Although Barry was the chief architect of the palace, he turned to Augustus Pugin for the design of the clock tower. Pugin wrote, "I never worked so hard in my life for Mr. Barry, for tomorrow I shall turn in all the drawings for the finishing of his clock tower and it is magnificent."
