TOP 20 Most Beautiful Steampunk Animals

It was about time we tackled this subject! We can't count the sculptures, photographs or illustrations featuring an animal in Steampunk style anymore. We've included some totally unusual animals in this article, stay tuned! Many images are waiting for you through this TOP, so we wish you a good viewing!

⚠️ Warning ⚠️ don't scroll too fast: if you are arachnophobic, don't go beyond the Steampunk Dogs (number 15)!

Steampunk Seahorse

We didn't want to start with the most popular, but with the most aesthetically pleasing. We could even say that the seahorse is "steampunk" in itself, because of its morphology.

Sue Beatrice (2nd column) creates spectacular miniature steampunk animal sculptures, using the smallest parts of converted antique pocket watches. Dragons, octopuses, horses and fairies... The photos we will see throughout this article show a small sample of his incredible works.

Steampunk Cats

Here is the most popular steampunk animal! In drawing, sculpture, or costume, the steampunk cat 🐱 wears Steampunk Hats extremely well. It even looks like it was made to wear this accessory, don't you think? An aviator and explorer cat, or cat delicately drinking his tea, ... Choose your style!

If you are also a cat lover, we strongly advise you to visit La Maison du Chat. Reference in their field, they offer you beautiful cat jewelry, unless you prefer a cat watch?

Steampunk Octopus

And here is finally the Steampunk Octopus 🐙. Its origins, as well as its inspirations, come from the books of Jules Verne. The octopus (or the Steampunk Octopus), is the most emblematic animal of the steampunk movement.

Scuba on the head, Steampunk glasses or Gears at the end of the tentacles: we can largely say that the Octopus is to Steampunk what the Dragon is to Fantasy.

Steampunk Owls

The Owl 🦉 has been greatly hijacked in Steampunk fashion. It has the usual accessories, but this time the theme of time is often highlighted, with clocks.

The owls live in the dark, which attracts magic, mystery and ancient knowledge. The moon, to which owls are also linked, is associated with the night. The owl is also a symbol of femininity and fertility. Even mythology associates the owl with this wisdom and femininity.

Steampunk Butterfly

Terribly aesthetic and refined, the Steampunk Butterfly 🦋 has almost as much "class" as the Steampunk Seahorses. It is in its atypical morphology that we find the same originalities.

We offer on our store beautiful Steampunk Jewelry in the shape of butterfly :

Steampunk Dragon

This impressive mythological creature is of all splendor when it takes on a steampunk style. And especially when it takes disproportionate dimensions. We can see below the creator Tom Samui with his magnificent Steampunk Dragon 🐉 made of metal and gears. More modestly, there are also miniature dragons like Sue Beatrice's, or even Mechanical and Articulated Dragon illustrations.

Steampunk Bird

Here we have several artists famous for their Steampunk Birds 🐤. Let's start with Igor Verniy, creator of the white ceramic Steampunk Pigeons in the first column.

Russian artist Igor Verniy has managed to create some truly spectacular art using an old stock of spare parts and junk. Turning metal objects into steampunk-inspired animals is no easy task, but Verniy manages to do it with great success: some parts move, bringing the already detailed sculpture to life. He starts by studying the animal he plans to recreate, to get the movements and the image. He then builds them with the most appropriate materials he can find. These are mainly scrap metal, but also parts of old cars or bicycles, clocks, crockery and anything else that might be useful.

Pierre Matter, posing next to his gigantic eagle 🦅 in the 2nd column, works mainly with bronze and embellishes sculptures with recycled objects, using welders, plasma cutters, laser cutters and grinders to shape and carve.

Steampunk Fish

Sculptures or drawings, Steampunk Fish 🐠 often represent the fish of the deep and abyss. Probably because it creates an aura of mystery and distance, as we know so little about this extreme underwater world.

Here we find the artist Arturas Tamasauskas (last image of the 1st column), whom we had discussed in our article on The Most Beautiful Steampunk Sculptures.

Steampunk Elephant

This fascinating and impressive animal does not escape steampunk! It's all the more extraordinary when you can ride in this colossal creature 🐘, like with the Elephant of L'Île de Nantes! The Machines de l'île are an exhibition and animation space.

Steampunk Unicorn

Epic sculpture or small miniature object, the Steampunk Unicorn 🦄 has not finished making us dream!

Steampunk insect

Igor Verniy, who we discussed above, and Mike Libby dominate this category. Ladybug 🐞, bee 🐝, wasp or even steampunk ant 🐜, they do not lack imagination.

Since the late 1990s, the steampunk style has become increasingly popular, and not only in literature. Various modern utilitarian objects have been transformed by enthusiasts into a pseudo-Victorian mechanical "steampunk" style. And this stylization often gives very unexpected results. Like, for example, the artworks of American sculptor Mike Libby. His studio Insect Lab makes robots out of dried insects. The insects used in his works come from all over the world, from Africa, China, New Guinea, Brazil, Texas, etc. Every cog or gear from antique pocket watches and wristwatches is used as a mechanical component. Each little robot in his collection is unique and very expensive - the price of a robot ranges from $600 to $2500.

Steampunk Rabbit

It's usually a cute creature, like this miniature on a hand, or the illustration showing him with a top hat. However, the Steampunk Rabbit 🐰 can sometimes turn into anything else... The first image in the third column is a work by James Corbett, an artist we'll see multiple times below through his sculptures.

Steampunk Scorpion

We totally change the mood with these Steampunk Scorpions 🦂 ! Even in drawings or metal sculptures, they still look as dangerous... Here we find, first image first column, a work by Mike Libby, who let's remember: makes his steampunk animals from dried insects! He then adds various small objects to make them "steampunk".

Steampunk Horse

We've talked about Unicorn, but now let's talk about Steampunk Horses 🐴. Here, the reference is Hasan Novrozi, especially known for his famous Steampunk Pegasus. We already talked about it in our article on Steampunk Sculptures, remember.

We always find the miniature works of Sue Beatrice, who really excels in her practice.

Steampunk Dog

As with cats, Steampunk Dogs 🐶 are very popular! The most famous is probably this cute little dog right below, 1st image in the 1st column. It's the work of Stephane Halleux. About his work, he says: "I like crazy mixes, unlikely associations, advanced technology mixed with old-fashioned mechanisms. I have always been fascinated by robotics, its advantages and contradictions. To create these beautiful sculptures, Stephane used leather, metal, wood pulp and recycled materials.

This little dog then became the central character of the short film Mr Hublot. We put the trailer just below these images.

Steampunk spider

If you are here, it means that you don't have a phobia of spiders ! You have been warned. They're actually pretty cute these Steampunk Spiders 🕷. Except for the illustration on the center column. Putting a light bulb to make the spider's belly: it's really a bright idea don't you think?

Steampunk Dragonfly

Small flying insect, the steampunk dragonfly often has mechanical wings, with multiple cogs. Others have completely normal wings, and it is the body that is mechanical.

Steampunk Beetle

The beetle is also often represented in steampunk style: with gears instead of organs (or a pocket watch, as you can see on the last picture). We could have placed it with the Steampunk Bugs, but we think it deserves its own category, as the creations are so aesthetically pleasing.

Steampunk Wolf

The first column in this category is dedicated to artist Andrew Chase 🐺. Not only did he create a multitude of mechanical animals (elephant, ram, rhino, panther, t-rex, horse, lion, giraffe, gorilla, ...), but on top of that, they are fully articulated!

The other illustrations feature half animal, half machine wolves.

Steampunk Fox

And finally, we wanted to introduce you to the Steampunk Foxes 🦊. Few sculptures have been made in relation to the fox, however this lack is compensated by the illustrations, all equally original and diverse. Mechanical and metallic fox, or fox wearing steampunk glasses and a top hat, ...
